Angela’s Vintage Lingerie post yesterday totally inspired me…I’ve always been a fan of the great fashion illustrator Rene Gruau.
His career really took off in 1947 with his advertisements for Christian Dior (see some below), which lead to jobs for magazines like Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue, and a gig as the exclusive illustrator for my favorite magazine of all time, Flair. Of course, in the 50’s, he created illustrations for just about every French design house, including Balenciaga, Balmain, Fath, Givenchy, and Rochas.

I love the demureness of vintage lingerie . The chiffons, ruffles, bows and bloomers are more slumber party than prom night. These are the looks that are inspiring my current search…
I love the soft lense and pink lighting in this shot taken from The New York Times Style Magazine’s Spring issue.
I spotted this 1960’s lingerie ad for Christian Dior on one of my favorite image sites, flickr.com. See more vintage Christian Dior ads here.
These nighties from Heavenly Vintage Lingerie would be perfect for Summertime!
One of my favorite new beauty products is Stella McCartney’s Toning Floral Water from her line of organic skincare, Care. It refreshes the skin and smells divine.
I think I was born a collector- whether it was Nancy Drew books as a child (I had to have each one!) or John Derian plates as an adult (I buy a new one every year).
I go through phases, but the things I’ve been hoarding as an adult tend to be vintage… I’ve collected antique silverware (purposely mismatching), transferware plates (my favorites are the brown and black), antique velvet jewelry boxes (the tiny kind that a ring or a necklace would have come in), vintage rhinestone/crystal/paste jewelry (wore some on my wedding day), old photographs and postcards…
The Poppytalk blog has a whole section dedicated to eclectic collections and they’re absolutely sublime.
Some of my favorite images:
{rubber duckies and clipboards from Abigail Hendrickson of How Now Design}
{metal boxes from the collection of Benita Larsson}
{stamps from the Netherlands from Janet of Three Potato Four}
{typewriter ribbon tins from Janine Vangool of Uppercase Gallery}
And no, not that Kate.
Kate is a boutique in Santa Barbara- and lucky for those of us not within driving distance of the store, they have an e-comm website with chic finds that range from flirtatious to bohemian. Expect designers like Rozae Nichols, Nili Lotan, Souchi, and Ulla Johnson.
