Beauty in Black and White

{NOTE: This is the last post from our wonderful intern Christine. Good luck Christine! We’ll miss you!! xx}

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of hauntingly beautiful editorials! This set of photos from April’s issue of Numéro, shot by Luciana Val and Franco Musso, takes my breath away…

Cravings

I met Celia a few years ago when she was reviewing our client Aqua for her website Cravings, a stylish guide to eating your way through New York City.

I love this website- it’s witty, informative and fun. Bonus: about once a month, they have their Baking Fridays, when you can enter to win gorgeous edibles by answering their craving-related question.

Yvestown

I was just checking out some new blogs, and found The Yvestown Blog (which I linked to from the charming Kapcity blog)…

The woman behind this blog is a photographer and homemaker that lives in The Netherlands, and I love the shots of her home. So girly and so light-filled!

J.R. Watkins

While shopping at Target this weekend, I came across an all natural cleaning product, J.R. Watkins, that had such chic packaging, I began filling my cart with soaps, wipes and sprays that I didn’t even need! I love the luxe vintage apothecary look of these liquid soaps…especially the lemon scented dish soap that looks like an old medicine or alcohol bottle.

Madonna Inn

When I was in NY last week, I was chatting with a consultant/design blogger friend who was talking about making a trip to Hearst Castle

A few years ago, my husband Sam planned a road trip to Hearst Castle for my birthday. (Loved it!) While down there, we stayed overnight at the Madonna Inn, which is kitchiness at it’s very finest! I told her that she must check it out.

It’s very 60’s in feel- all of the rooms have a theme and all will make you feel like you seriously stepped back in time- and maybe an alternate universe. My favorites (and I’m guessing, the most popular) are the “rock” rooms with literally have boulders for walls, floors, or ceilings. (Maybe not the best spot to be in an earthquake.) Many have rock waterfall showers too… I think if you’re going for the full experience, you shouldn’t miss it.

This is the room we stayed in- Jungle Rock.

And they now have an online boutique, as any motel should- ha! The coffee table book is really pretty cool…

I’m kind of obsessed with this pink sugar…

And I love the Madonna Inn towel a friend bought me when she made her maiden voyage.

The Product Gallery

My friend Lynn (who after being friends for something like 10 years realized we are cousins!!) does it all- she’s a stylist for magazines like O Magazine, Real Simple, and In Style Weddings, created a line of preppy-cool men’s ties, and also owns a home decor website called The Product Gallery

Here are some of my favorite items:

Absinthe at the Bowery Hotel Lobby Bar

When we were in NYC last week, Angela and I met up with Cerise for a drink at the Bowery Hotel before dinner at Gemma. Wow- what a lobby! While it may not have the authenticity of the Chateau, it was certainly tres charmant.

P.S. Honestly, this photo doesn’t do it justice.

L.E.S. Love

Having lived in the East Village for eight years, I spent some serious time on the Lower East Side…I have such fond memories of Ecomony Candy (the only place to buy Red Vines in NYC before they started distributing them on the East Coast), TG-170 (maybe the first great boutique in the hood), Guss’ Pickles (yum!), and the Lower East Side Tenement Museum (go!).

Angela, Cerise and I spent a little time there last week, and I was so happy to see my favorite spots still holding their own. I mean, I know it’s been almost eight years since I’ve lived in New York, but the neighborhood has changed so much! I won’t complain about killer boutiques like Some Odd Rubies and Doyle & Doyle, but it kind of weirds me out to see Max Fish and Pink Pony saddling up next to the Hotel on Rivington where the rooms start at $419 per night.
