About five years ago, Sam and I were driving back to California from Oregon, and we got off the highway {route 5} to find something to eat- we were starving. We ended up in this tiny little ‘old west’ kind of town and couldn’t find anywhere to eat. A woman at a gas station pointed us in the direction of the local pizzeria and the rest became Davis family lore: it was the most scrumptious pizza ever! We don’t know how to explain it exactly, but it’s just perfection. What’s so sad {and relatively stupid on our part} is that we didn’t make any effort to remember the place’s name or even which exit it was off.
Over the holiday, with some free time on our hands, Sam and I decided to drive north and try to find it. We drove 2 1/2 hours north and got off on the exit towards Chico {starting in Oakland}. We found the spot {crazy luck!} which was called Pizza Palace {sorry, no website!}, within just a few minutes- we couldn’t believe it!
Just in case you are making the route 5 drive, you must stop by for a pizza {I suggest pepperoni}. The town is Orland, CA, and they are at 704 5th Street. We both ordered entire pizzas for ourselves and then some to take home- they also have ‘take-and-bake’. Two and a half hours {in each direction} might be a long time to drive for a pizza, but we’d do it all over again.

I think you win the family award for, “Who has too much time on their hands?”
(And now I want pizza. At 8am. Hmph!)
This is why i love you guys and why we are friends. I think my favorite part is that you both ordered whole pizzas for yourselves. I. Love It.
