I always insist that anyone visiting San Francisco visit the Musee Mecanique… It’s an unbelievable collection of antique arcade games and mechanical amusements like “Laughing Sal” {which creeps me out, but I love it!} and fortune teller machines with the old lady behind the crystal ball. It’s fun and interactive- you can actually play the games and it’s really like stepping back in time. It used to be located at Ocean Beach, right underneath the Cliff House but in 2002 the collection had to be moved to Pier 45 where it is today. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

How genius! Alicia Lynn Carrier, freelance photographer and fine artist {and aspiring tattoo artist} will draw whatever your heart desires for just $10, provided it fits on a 5×7 piece of brown paper {which had it’s former life as a lunch bag}. Now to decide what I want…

A few weeks ago, Sam and I spent a Sunday afternoon at Filoli {in Woodside, CA- just south of San Francisco}, and I can’t believe I’ve lived in the Bay Area for almost nine years now without hearing about it sooner. The 36,000 square foot ‘country house’ was built in the 1920’s, and there are 16 acres of formal gardens with will be lush with flowers in the coming months. {You click this link on their website to find out what’s currently in bloom!}
Because we visited on a Sunday, we couldn’t take the 2 hour guided house and garden tour, but there was a self-guided tour with docents in each room of the house, and it was just perfect. The decor was amazing and the details so fun- peeking into cabinets filled with antique treasures, a library filled with gorgeous old books and bathrooms with the most charming fixtures. I can’t wait to go again.

P.S. When you go, don’t miss the “gift shop” which is really a well-edited garden and gift boutique and the cafe which has the best chocolate layer cake I’ve ever eaten.

that Christy’s last day is today?? I think I might be in denial.
Our fabulous intern Christy’s last day is today and she will truly be missed. She’ll be off to NYC in the summer to pursue her dreams of becoming a fashion editor, and I just know she’s on a road to a wonderful career…

The search is over! We found two new amazing interns that have just started here at Ruby Press {and a third who starts in May, but more about her later!}. Minh-Khue and Kate are such great additions to the team- we couldn’t be happier. There were so many amazing applicants this season, it was a very difficult decision. We feel so lucky to have had so many smart and talented women come our way.
Keep an eye out for posts from them in the near future. They both have great style and I think you’ll love them.

This Chanel ‘bag’ totally made me laugh… but I am kind of obsessed with it! {From the Chanel Fall 2009 RTW show...}

It’s rare that you find a good vintage fashion vendor on Etsy who not only has great clothes, but who also understands the importance of good styling and photography. The Berlin based Oh, Leoluca, really gets it right.

I’m super excited to watch HBO’s Grey Gardens with Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange! {The promotional video looks amazing…watch it here.} Little Edie Beale was truly the fashion icon!
