Angela and I are back from our New York trip and it was a great trip. We had three very full days of press appointments {thanks to all of our editor friends who trekked out in the rain to see us}, our Rubie Green event was a great success {and loads of fun!}, and we even managed to squeeze in a few hours of shopping in Brooklyn before flying out on Saturday.
While in Brooklyn, we stopped in a little boutique that had a few zines on the shelves, which got me thinking, is it time to return to the ‘zine’? With today’s shrinking newsstands and plethora of blogs, do we crave something we can hold in our hand? I created a fashion zine in college, which is what lead to my internship at Sassy Magazine, which is what then lead to my job at Harper’s Bazaar, so I clearly have a fondness for them…

Sounds like you ladies had a great time. Wish I could’ve gone to the Rubie Green event!
I would love to read your old zines. It must be fun going back and reading them.
Zines – or at least, independent press – is totally coming back. The fervor is fueled by the recession. I spent the weekend at San Francisco’s Alternative Press Expo, and there’s a big push for indie publishers (as small as letterpress booklets, as big as Hi-Fructose) to keep doing their thing.
get it going melissa..in all your spare time!..there is nothing like holding a fresh zine in your hands..
Caitlin- it IS fun going through them!
They seem so primitive nowadays!!
Mayka- I am so with you on this!
Rikshaw- You’re a genius!!
But wouldn’t it be fun?! Hmmmm….
xxM
Your Zine looks fabulous! Love it!
J’Adore the cover! Being a total zine addict, I am saddened by the closure of so many wonderful publications…Glad to hear that some are coming back!
Thanks guys!!
