Have you heard about this movie starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis? What could be better than a beautiful (I heard that the Rodarte sisters designed the costumes) and spooky ballet thriller? It won’t be released in the States until December, but in the meantime check out the trailer here!
I admit that I’m hooked- I actually look forward to the end of my weekends now! I realized how bad it was when my DVR mistakenly recorded Rubicon instead of this week’s episode. Luckily, Mad Men fanatics like myself can get their 1960’s fix through other outlets as well… like Natasha Vargas-Cooper’s new book, inspired by her blog dedicated to dissecting references from the show. Even Maidenform is hip to the craze- Mad Men’s costume designer referenced Maidenform’s ‘I Dreamed I’ campaign in her style book and is now working on promoting the brand. Brilliant!
I’ve been trying to work some old classics into our Netflix queue. This weekend was Bonnie and Clyde. I forgot how stunning Faye Dunaway was {Warren Beatty wasn’t too hard on the eyes either}-that perfect sixties hairdo, the subtle cat eye and berets… loved it! A fun summer flick for sure. Watch the original trailer that I dug up here.
How to describe this 10 member band of brilliance Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros? Their sound and style is reminiscent of the 60’s and 70’s yet with a new twist and some occasional dark tunes, which always leaves me in awe after listening. The song “Home” on their album “Up From Below” is a perfect soundtrack to start off any summer; happy, fun-loving and free-spirited!
Aaaah… California modernism at it’s very best. Julius Schulman’s iconic photographs are discussed in this documentary, which I will be visually devouring this weekend. Can’t wait!
After watching Jean Luc Godard’s 1965 film Pierrot Le Fou, I became absolutely obsessed with Anna Karina, the star and also Godard’s muse. She is so beautiful- breathtaking actually, I could look at photographs of her for hours on end. I love foreign films and I highly suggest Pierrot Le Fou or Le Mepris (1963) starring Bridget Bardot (another favorite of mine)…
