The blue diamond

Have you checked out Architectural Digest’s  shopAD? It’s so much fun to click through! I spotted some really fabulous pieces, like this diamond lighting fixture by The Urban Electric Company. It reminds me of an ultra modernized Moroccan lamp. I just love it!

Berkeley Bowl West

I almost hugged a stranger in a grocery store parking lot this weekend.  Seriously.  Let me backup: There’s a legendary grocery store in Berkeley, CA called Berkeley Bowl, known to all those food lovers in the Bay Area.  It’s amazing mainly because of it’s unbelievably vast produce section.  To give you an idea, if your typical grocery store carries 5 types of apples, Berkeley Bowl will have 20 varieties.  And the prices are pretty fantastic.  What is not fantastic, however, is the teeny, tiny parking lot and narrow aisles.  People who don’t live here think that Berkeley residents must be peace-loving, easy going folks- they are not.  I have come very close to getting into a fist fight in that parking lot more than once.  In fact, I haven’t been to the store in about a year, even though it’s almost on the way home from work.  So let me get back to the hugging… They just built the 2nd Berkeley Bowl, called Berkeley Bowl West (yep, still in Berkeley but on Heinz, right off San Pablo Avenue) and it is everything I’ve ever dreamed it would be.  Big parking lot, ample street parking AND a parking garage, super wide aisles, and all of the great produce, mouth-watering prepared foods, and loads of bulk goodies I love.  Total heaven!

Mercy

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like there are less and less great vintage stores around, so I was very excited when I drove by Mercy Vintage Now on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland the other day.  Stopped by to check it out in person today and it did not disappoint.  I found lots of great pieces, including a sweet navy blue lace dress with puff sleeves from the 40’s and a pink/red bohemian gown from the 70’s…

Napa Valley Apothecary

I was recently at one of my favorite East Bay boutiques, Atomic Garden, and came across products from the charming Napa Valley Apothecary.  They sell their line under private label for Atomic Garden and also on their website.  I bought the lavender beauty cream {you won’t believe how cheap it is!} and I am just in love with it.  Why?  #1. The light, whipped texture. #2. The cream is very rich and moisturizing {but not at all greasy!}.  #3. The all natural ingredients- and most ingredients are organic.  #4. The cream has an intoxicating lavender scent that makes me want to apply it all day long.
