Everything on Canelle et Vanille always looks delicious, but these Cherry Blossom Doughnuts look exceptionally scrumptious. I might just have to whip some up!

While Angela and I were in New York, we managed to squeeze in an evening with one of our favorite people, Michelle Adams. {You know her from Rubie Green and Lonny Magazine.} After a tour of her new apartment {which you can also see in the latest issue of Lonny!}, we headed to dinner at the most charming West Village restaurant, Bobo. Unbelievably chic decor and atmosphere…and the best company!

Call it the modern day version of a chain letter, but I call this fun! Victoria from SFGirlByBay started this Blog it Forward and everyone participating is blogging about what inspires them and then passing it onto the next blogger…but alas, today is the last day, so it ends here! {Thanks for the intro from yesterday’s Blog It Forward contributor, River Dog Prints!}
What inspires me? There are so many things it’s kind of tough to choose, but here are a few-
Vintage photos, especially portraits. I’ve spent hours upon hours sorting through bins at the flea market.
Old houses and their architectural details…especially old doors, original bathrooms and kitchens.
Gorgeous food blogs/photography…like Canelle et Vanille or Sunday Suppers. They inspire me to put on an apron and get in the kitchen!
Vintage calligraphy and calligraphic prints.
Music- especially women who rock. Dying to see the new Runaways movie. Have you seen the documentary that came out years ago?
Vacations- the lazy kind!

This was fun! Thanks!!

I went to school in Richmond, VA for three years and really loved living in that city. I lived in charming old apartments in the historic Fan neighborhood, befriended 85 year old ladies and did some amazing vintage shopping while I was there. {Oh yeah, and got a degree!} But one of the things I miss most about Richmond is a tiny little storefront called Sally Bell’s Kitchen. Established in 1924 {it was called Sarah Lee Kitchen up until 1959}, it’s in an unassuming brick building off the beaten path. One of my favorite treats from Sally Bell’s are their cupcakes- they flip them upside down and ice the bottom and sides! {More icing= Good idea.} They are perhaps best known for their boxed lunches, though. They contain a sandwich {they have many to choose from}, potato or macaroni salad {I suggest the famous potato salad}, 1/2 a deviled egg, a cheese wafer, and a cupcake. But be warned- as my Richmond-dwelling sister reminds me, they often run out of boxed lunches as early as 1:00 pm!
I love a vintage trailer and I love cupcakes….what an amazing combination! Former pastry chef Amber Vander Vliet and husband/partner Kevin from Enjoy Cupcakes will bring their gorgeous {and delicious, I’m quite sure} cupcakes to your event in their ridiculously cute vintage turquoise and white trailer. {If you are near enough to them in California’s Santa Ynez Valley, which sadly, we at Ruby Press are not.}
Their almost endless list of flavors includes mimosa, meyer lemon chardonnay, mexican chocolate, and strawberry lemonade…
And if you don’t have an event to lure the trailer to, visit Amber on weekends in the chic tasting lounge at Saarloos & Sons.
{Thanks for the tip Aleesa- you know us Ruby Press girls well! Photos by Jose Villa, images from Flights of Fancy blog.}
I love this beautiful display of cheese, bread, fruit, and honey that Sunday Suppers created for Darcy Miller’s The Bride’s Guide! This might be my perfect dinner…with a little chocolate, of course.

It’s been chilly in the Bay Area lately and cold winter nights always make me want one thing: breakfast for dinner. Something about a plate of pancakes and bacon or french toast always warms me up. These blueberry-cornmeal pancakes with orange maple butter are a favorite of mine, but next I’ll be trying these lemon ricotta pancakes with sauteed apples, and this baked french toast.

My friend Dani just got back from Paris and brought me some of the chic little sugar cubes she spoke of in this post…aren’t they the cutest? A cup of tea is just that much more charming with a heart shaped sugar cube.
I don’t think you can buy them here in the states…or has anyone found them anywhere here?

{and for once, photos by me!!}
