LASHING OUT

I did it! I got lash extensions! I have always wanted them and so when a friend of mine got them done and knew of a great deal, I finally did it! And I am so in love. I got the longest possible- of course- and couldn’t be happier. With a little summer tan, it’s all I need for July.

Hominy Grill

Ever since I got back home from my trip to South Carolina, I have been dreaming of sandy beaches, poolside drinks, and especially a delicious meal I had at Charleston’s charming Hominy Grill. I feasted on fried green tomatoes with homemade ranch dressing, shrimp and grits, succulent fried chicken, gooey macaroni and cheese, squash casserole, and velvety chocolate pudding. If you won’t be in Charleston anytime soon, check out their recipe books – for a mere $13, you can whip up some crab cakes and buttermilk pie and enjoy a little lowcountry dining at home!

What They’re Into…with Joanna Goddard

The second feature in our What They’re Into series features blogger extraordinaire Joanna Goddard of A Cup of Jo.  I felt an instant connection to Joanna the first time we met in NYC, but I think it was the incredibly sweet and thoughtful email she sent me with the very best baby advice {from what you really need to buy-and don’t!- to how wonderful it is having a baby boy, when you always assumed you’d have a girl!} when I was pregnant that made me feel as though we’d been friends for years.  Thanks so much Joanna for sharing what you’re into with us and our readers! xx

What is the last thing you bought that you shouldn’t have?

Sleeping on crisp, cool sheets is one of life’s simple pleasures, so I can’t help splurging on bedding. (And apparently you spend a third of your life in bed, right?) We have these Unison striped sheets, and our son Toby sleeps on DwellStudio’s adorable crib sheets.

What are your favorite places to shop, online and off?

Chance is one of my favorite destinations for easy dresses and striped shirts, and I’m newly into Topshop for their sandals. For home decor, John Derian is the MOST beautiful shop in New York, and everyone who visits should make a beeline right there.

What is your favorite room in your home and why?

Our living room. When we’re at home, we spend 99% of our time there, drumming on Bongosplaying games and watching scary movies.

What is your favorite scent?

The briny ocean, when you can smell fish and salty air–which reminds me of summers at my grandparents’ house. Everyone’s favorite scent seems to be attached to childhood memories.

What inspires you?

Recently I’ve been really inspired by just going outside and feeling the wind in my hair. Giving your mind room to wander is so restorative.

What’s one luxury you can’t live without?

Stinky cheeses! We live down the street from Murray’s, and it’s dangerous all around.

St. Vincent + David Byrne

If you love badass musician St. Vincent {and how could you not?!}, I think you will be very pleased to hear that she’s releasing a collaboration, Love This Giant, with Talking Heads’ frontman David Byrne this September. The duo co-wrote ten of the twelve tracks {along with each writing an individual track} and will be touring the US together this fall. Check out the free download “Who” for a sample of the brass-based album.
