Lauren Dukoff

If anyone is scrambling to buy a VERY last-minute Christmas gift, allow me point you in the right direction.  I’ve been dying to check out photographer Lauren Dukoff’s book Family since it released a few months ago.  It features candid yet striking shots of musicians Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, Entrance, Bat for Lashes, Vetiver, and many more–an incredibly creative “family” of folks that are pretty stylish both on and off the stage.

Bibliomania

Sam and I stumbled upon Bibliomania (1816 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, 510-835-5733) after the yummiest lunch at Flora, one of my favorite new restaurants in Oakland. (Side note: Try the “donettes” at brunch!) The exterior may be a bit bizarre and outdated, but the interior is stacked with the most gorgeous antique books on every subject imaginable. Fiction, history, children’s (broken down into numerous subcategories), home decor, fashion, etc… We even found bizarre categories like “gypsies” (what??) and old yearbooks! I took home some great finds- a book on the history of Bergdorf Goodman (1st edition, and way out of print!), a Balmain autobiography, dancer and perfumer Esme of Paris’s autobiography and Roger Vadim’s “Bardot, Deneuve, Fonda”. They also have a huge selection of vintage cookbooks- what a perfect hostess gift!
