Gin and Blueberries

Gin and tonics are the summertime drink of choice around my house, so it was only natural that the star ingredient should make its way into our favorite summertime dessert. This recipe for Blueberries in Gin Syrup is perfect over vanilla ice cream on a hot summer night.

February, April said, “That half of the year, well we’ll never be friends…”*

This week’s sudden shift in weather back to SF’s signature rainy/overcast blah has left me longing for the summer I spent in Denmark. The history, the slow summer days, and the modest lifestyle of the Danish people made me feel like I could be happy there forever. So it came as no surprise to me when I recently read that Denmark once again tops the list as The Happiest Country … Eventually I grew to miss the bustle and excitement of my old life back in California, but for a month it was all I could have ever wanted. So, in remembrance of that idyllic summer I have found myself keeping Beirut’s Nantes, Luke Buda’s Blue Summer and Feist’s Gatekeeper on repeat this week.
