Solange

I still love the older Knowles sister, but I have been developing a girl crush on her younger sis Solange. Her song “Losing You” has been in heavy rotation on my morning commute, and I want to go to one of her dinner parties after reading this Elle article. (Solange, if you’re reading this, can we be friends?!)

Jambox, I love you!

We just got our sleek and chic new red Jambox {much smaller than it looks here- like 6 inches across} for the office and wow, we are kind of dying over how amazing it is!  Super easy to set up {seriously, 2 minutes?} and it lets us listen to anyone in the office’s iPhone library or without plugging it in to the box- with awesome sound.

I am a little embarrassed at how much I am freaking out over it.

{We bought ours here.}

St. Vincent + David Byrne

If you love badass musician St. Vincent {and how could you not?!}, I think you will be very pleased to hear that she’s releasing a collaboration, Love This Giant, with Talking Heads’ frontman David Byrne this September. The duo co-wrote ten of the twelve tracks {along with each writing an individual track} and will be touring the US together this fall. Check out the free download “Who” for a sample of the brass-based album.

Belle Musique

Nouvelle Vague has to be one of my most favorite French musical collective bands to date. Their sound is so sugary sweet- even when covering the Dead Kennedys, Joy Division and Blondie. Their album Band a Part is one of my favorites. The album includes versions of “Blue Monday” by New Order and “The Killing Moon” by Echo and the Bunnymen and much more. Apprécier et au revoir!

Edward Sharpe is Magnetic

How to describe this 10 member band of brilliance Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros? Their sound and style is reminiscent of the 60’s and 70’s yet with a new twist and some occasional dark tunes, which always leaves me in awe after listening. The song “Home” on their album “Up From Below” is a perfect soundtrack to start off any summer; happy, fun-loving and free-spirited!

Will Karen Elson….

replace Zooey Deschanel as the blog darling??  She’s got it all and maybe more…  Model looks, impeccable taste, rock star husband, and a new album {just released, and produced by hubbie Jack White}.  Watch this video clip and tell me what you think!  {And read the Style.com interview here.}

Beach House

Now that the weather is heating up and the days are a little longer, I’ve been on the lookout for good warm weather albums to freshen up my music library. A friend recommended this album by Beach House and I haven’t been able to make a playlist since that doesn’t include at least one of the songs.  The album is a bit of 80’s synth mixed with hauntingly beautiful melodies and good old fashioned song writing. Are there any albums that you’ve recently added to your sunny weather mix?

Lauren Dukoff

If anyone is scrambling to buy a VERY last-minute Christmas gift, allow me point you in the right direction.  I’ve been dying to check out photographer Lauren Dukoff’s book Family since it released a few months ago.  It features candid yet striking shots of musicians Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, Entrance, Bat for Lashes, Vetiver, and many more–an incredibly creative “family” of folks that are pretty stylish both on and off the stage.
