Visible

For her Spring 2014 collection, Visible, Karen Walker made the Kenyan artisans behind the season’s inspiration visible in the most fantastic way- She cast them as the stars of the campaign! Working with the United Nations’ ITC Ethical Fashion Initiative, Walker enlisted the help of craftspeople from the urban slums and rural areas of Kenya to create a series of screen-printed and beaded pouches for the line. It makes for an incredibly striking campaign and I can’t get over how beautiful the shots turned out. Below is one of our favorite shots from the campaign featuring the statuesque Winnifred in Faithful.

Michigan

Just got back from a lovely trip to Michigan! My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to be there during the first snow, though unfortunately, we were completely unprepared for how cold it was! We stayed with friends who live in a beautiful modern house in the country just outside Brighton, but made sure to spend plenty of time in Ann Arbor. They took us around to all their favorite spots: Mani Osteria (a newly opened, but already very popular restaurant with pizza as good as the Bay Area), the Jolly Pumpkin (world-renowned brewery with wild, “living” beers) and the Raven’s Club (a super cool bar where our friend makes the most amazing cocktails). Below are a few pictures from the Raven’s Club-

Cozy nights

Sure, it gets dark outside around 5 PM, but I think these shorter days aren’t all bad!  After all, they mean more time for yummy cocktails, a roaring fireplace, baking, and holiday festivities.  I am dying to make this gingersnap cocktail from PopSugar, read the new Mast Brothers cookbook and start decorating for Christmas!!

A boy and his dogs

There are so many good Instagram accounts out there, but this one just melts my heart. It follows a  little boy named Julian and his two Newfoundland best friends, Max and puppy Bruce. Julian’s dad is in the navy and travels a lot, so Julian’s mom uses Instagram to share what’s going on with the family back in Washington- how cute is that?? We think Julian’s in good hands with these two by his side! What are some of your favorite accounts to follow?

Tosca Cafe

As someone who likes to eat, I’m always excited to read about restaurant openings across the country, but especially in my hometown of San Francisco. Tomorrow marks the re-opening of North Beach’s historic Tosca Cafe. New York restauranteur Ken Friedman and chef April Bloomfield saved the SF landmark from rising rent, and are keeping many of its elements (like the House Cappuccino – their signature hot chocolate and brandy drink) intact, while adding an Italian menu to the mix. I’m so happy to see this piece of San Francisco history preserved, and can’t wait to re-experience it!

Lulu Frost’s Baroque Wonderland

As a lover of all things girly and pink I may have just stumbled upon the most captivating SS 2014 presentation of NYFW! Lulu Frost created a sugar coated “neon baroque” show that was the envy of every little girl. Check out their website and you’ll be sure to get lost in the wonderful, colorful world of Lulu Frost!

Spotted SF

Have you seen Spotted SF? It has quickly become my favorite local site for learning about cool new places. Leslie Santarina (in addition to being a warm and lovely person!) takes beautiful photographs of local spots around the Bay Area and wherever her travels take her, and I have discovered quite a few gems from her…including this taco shop in Montauk!
