Growing up living next door to my Japanese grandmother, ramen was a staple in my childhood diet. So you can imagine my excitement as I’ve seen the ramen craze catch on {with a bunch of great ramen houses popping up in the bay area!}. Earlier this week I finally stopped by Ramen Shop in Oakland, and somewhere between the jams {90′s hip hop} and the spicy miso broth, I fell in love. Can’t wait to go back! In the Bay Area, we revel in our extended summers- warm weather often reaches far into September and I have already been taking full advantage! After work, I love to head to a restaurant with outside seating and just enjoy the sun setting on the Oakland skyline. {Love Lake Chalet where you can sit out on the dock below!} With all the new, cool restaurants and hangouts in Oakland there is much to love about living here. I know I’m still dying to try this, this– Oh, and this!

T-Rex is THE place to go for BBQ in the East Bay- especially if you appreciate artisanal ingredients and really yummy cocktails! I’ve actually referenced their online cocktail menu for entertaining at home. My favorite is their Time after Thyme cocktail- SO delicious and it’s a no brainer for happy hour (which is on weekends too)!

Ahhh…a cupcake truck that spreads it’s sweet love throughout the East Bay! Cupkates was started by Kate, a former Dwell editor and {as she claims} Chez Panisse’s worst intern ever. All of us at Ruby Press are thrilled she moved on to cupcakes because her’s are incredibly moist and flavorful. Anyone who knows me knows I am a sweets connoisseur…and these are the best I’ve had in years. {My favorite is s’mores!} Follow Cupkates’ Twitter feed to know where the truck will pop up next.
