Vita Wellness

In need of a total body recharge?  We love Berkeley, CA -based Vita Wellness juices and smoothies. Their customized juice packages are delivered to your door by 8am, and are refreshing, delicious, and made with organic, local, and seasonal ingredients. {I could guzzle the pineapple/green apple/lime/mint combo all day, every day!}

Founder and holistic nutrition consultant Melissa Rousseau will work with you to identify your goals, and create a program to address your individual needs. Her mix of green juices, lemon and ginger, raw cacoa tea with dates and vanilla, chia seed tea, and heavenly pineapple blend left me feeling much more energized than usual. If you’re not in Berkeley, Melissa posts tips and recipes on her site – I’m trying the Beet + Apple Refresher this week!

Flour + Water in the field!

Last year, I went to an Outstanding in the Field dinner and the experience definitely ranks as one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. This year, Flour + Water’s chef Thomas McNaughton is preparing dinner at Devils Gulch Ranch {the same beautiful farm I visited last May!} on May 27. Eating McNaughton’s handmade pastas in a vineyard in picturesque Marin County sounds like the most perfect night I can imagine. Tickets for the 2012 lineup of Outstanding in the Field dinners go on sale March 20 – get yours fast; they sell out like hot cakes!

Outstanding in the Field

Have you been to an Outstanding in the Field dinner? They’re a group that travels across the country, putting on large dinners in a beautiful setting, prepared by a local chef using local ingredients. Each of these tables is more breathtaking than the next. Check out the schedule to see if they’ll be stopping near you this summer!

54 Mint

When a friend is going to NYC and asks for recommendation for a really special, charming restaurant, I always suggest Il Buco.  One of the most romantic spots in the city, the space doubles as an antique store by day.  {And the basement/wine cellar space is hauntingly beautiful and is rumored to have been the inspiration behind Edgar Allan Poe’s The Cask of Amontillado!}

Well, I’ll no longer have to go to New York for Il Buco‘s scrumptious homemade pastas and amazing wine list.  The founder, Alberto Avalle, is opening a new restaurant, 54 Mint {opens by Monday, May 18th} in the charming Mint Plaza here in San Francisco!  I am dying to try it…
