About Melissa
She’s the publicist that the editors and influencers come to when they start their own businesses.
Melissa Davis has over twenty years of experience in PR, but began her career in fashion editorial at Harper’s Bazaar. She worked as a fashion editor for eight years, covering New York Fashion Week, identifying and interpreting trends, and generating story ideas- all while working very closely with New York and Los Angeles-based designers and their publicists.
She followed her time as a fashion editor in New York City with five years in editorial in San Francisco. She was hired as a contributing editor for Lucky magazine, where she created print, digital and broadcast content. While working with Lucky magazine, Melissa reported on local designers, retailers, and trends, which she also did while at San Francisco city magazine 7x7, where she served as their fashion/beauty editor for two years.
Melissa founded Ruby Press in 2001 and her husband Sam Davis joined Ruby Press as her partner in 2003. Melissa has been featured in numerous media outlets, including Design Sponge, Lonny, Gap.com, Martha Stewart Weddings, Marie Claire, San Francisco Chronicle, PopSugar, Glitter Guide, La Dolce Vita, and PR Couture. She has been invited to speak at top universities, including UC Berkeley, San Jose State, FIDM, and Academy of Art University, and has offered PR advice in books Craft Inc, and Ready to Launch: The PR Couture Guide to Breaking into Fashion PR. In 2014, she wrote and self-published the award-winning This is Oakland: A Guide to the City’s Most Interesting Places and was invited to be a panelist Watermark’s Lead On Conference for Women. Melissa served as a trustee for the Columbia County Historical Society, and created and ran the popular Mercantile at the Vanderpoel House for the organization.
Melissa is now based in a charming village in upstate New York and continues to work with clients across the globe.
